After graduating from primary school, in 1918 she moved to Kiev, where she worked in various jobs and studied at . In 1921 she entered the philological faculty of the Kiev Institute of Public Education, which she graduated in 1926 without defending a diploma.<br><br>Participated in the women’s movement. In the 1920s – a member of the Kiev literary association „Aspis”, then the literary association „Lanka” („Link”), renamed in 1926 into „Workshop of the revolutionary word” (MARS), which Pidmogilny, Evgeny Pluzhnik, Boris Antonenko-Davidovich, Dmitry Falkovsky, Todos Osmachka, Boris Teneta, Ivan Bagryany, Gordey Brasyuk, Grigory Klondike and others.<br><br>She took part in measures to eradicate illiteracy. She taught in Kiev. In 1926-1930 – teacher of the Ukrainian language and literature at the school of working youth.<br><br>In 1928-1929 she worked as the technical secretary of the Kiev local committee of writers, in 1930 – a literary employee (librettist) of the Kiev film factory.<br><br>In 1931 she got married and left for Kharkov, where she taught Ukrainian at the Kharkov Agricultural Institute.<br><br>In the mid-1930s, she moved away from active literary creativity, although she tried to return to it later.<br><br>During the German occupation, it was published in the magazine „Ukrainian seeding”.<br><br>After the war she lived in Lvov. She worked as a teacher of the Ukrainian language and literature at foreign language courses at the Institute for Teachers’ Improvement, at preparatory courses and circles of scientific workers at the Lviv Forestry and Animal Veterinary Institute, as a lecturer at the Knowledge Society. Together with her husband S. Postrigan, she compiled the “Terminological Dictionary of the Forester” (Lvov, 1980).<br><br>After the rehabilitation „Lanchan” took an active part in Lviv evenings dedicated to them; in the late 1960s, she published her memoirs about them in the Literaturnaya Ukraina newspaper.<br>Creation<br>M. Galich is the author of Ukrainian urban prose.<br><br>The rise of Maria Galich’s writing talent was in the 1920s. In the 1920s. the writer’s works were published in the magazine „Life and Revolution”, later included in the collection of short stories „The Typist” (1927). In 1929, her collection „My Career” was published, which included the novel of the same name and the stories „The Ring”, „They Killed”, „Nebela”, „No Bread”, etc.<br><br>Her work reflects the thematic and stylistic evolution of Ukrainian small prose. The early sketches „The Ring”, „They Killed”, „Nebela” are short miniature sketches about a beggarly village, a widow’s fate. Galich’s prose creates a holistic image of a confused person of the post-revolutionary era, tells about the attempts of rural people to adapt to the city.
