    <br>Pavel Gerasimovich Lisitsian (Armenian Պավել Գերասիմի Լիսիցյան; 1911, Vladikavkaz – 2004, Moscow) – Soviet, and Armenian opera and chamber singer (baritone), teacher. People’s Artist of the USSR (1956).<br>Biography<br>Born October 24 (November 6) 1911 in Vladikavkaz (now North Ossetia, Russia). Armenian by nationality. Graduated from the Vladikavkaz classical gymnasium.<br><br>He came to Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) in the summer of 1930. He began to work at the Baltic plant, at the same time he was taken as an extra in the Bolshoi Drama Theater.<br><br>Studied at the State Courses for Music Education named after V.I. N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov (now the Music School named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov). Took singing lessons from M. M. Levitskaya. In 1932-1935 he studied at the Leningrad School of Music at the Conservatory (now the St. Petersburg Music College named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov) (class of ZS Dolskaya). In 1960, he graduated as an external student from the Yerevan Conservatory named after A. Komitas.<br><br>Since 1933 he has been a soloist of the Lengosakteatrov Concert and Theater Bureau. Worked at the First Youth Opera House, where he made his debut in 1933 as Fiorello in The Barber of Seville by G. Rossini.<br><br>In 1935-1937 he was a soloist of the Leningrad Maly Opera Theater (now the Mikhailovsky Theater), in 1937-1940 – the Yerevan Opera and Ballet Theater.<br><br>During the war years from July to October 1941, together with the brigade, he traveled on the instructions of GlavPURKKA for performances in Red Army units, hospitals, and evacuation points at railway stations. For his selfless work at the front, he was marked by gratitude from the Political Directorate of the Western Front, by the command of the active army, as well as personal weapons from General L. M. Dovator. At the fronts and in the rear he sang more than five hundred concerts and had military awards – medals „For Courage”, „For the Defense of the Caucasus.”<br><br>From 1940 to 1966 he was a soloist with the Bolshoi Theater (Moscow), on the stage of which he gave 1,800 performances. In 1960 he was the first Soviet singer to perform at the New York Metropolitan Opera in Aida.<br><br>He performed as a concert singer, with particular success performs romances by P. I. Tchaikovsky and S. V. Rachmaninov, songs by Soviet composers.<br><br>Has toured abroad (Iran, Finland, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Poland, Yugoslavia, Netherlands, India, Japan, USA, Canada, Greece, Belgium, Indonesia, Italy, Iceland).<br><br>He was engaged in teaching activities. In 1967-1973 he taught at the Yerevan Conservatory (since 1969 – head of the department, since 1970 – professor), later – at the Moscow State Philharmonic. At the Bolshoi Theater, he consulted young singers .. Together with ZA Dolukhanova, he headed the International Singing School at the Union of Theater Workers of the USSR. He regularly taught vocal courses in Rostock (GDR).<br><br>Repeatedly participated in international as a member of the jury, including the competition in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the competitions of R. Schumann and J. S. Bach in East Germany. For 20 years he participated in the Weimar Music Seminars.<br><br>He died on July 6, 2004 (according to other sources – July 5). Buried at the Armenian cemetery in Moscow.<br>FamilyWife – Dagmara Aleksandrovna (1916-2016), sister of the singer, People’s Artist of the USSR ZA Dolukhanova (1918-2007).<br>Three children of P. Lisitsian were professionally engaged in singing, became laureates of international competitions, have the titles of People’s Artists of Armenia, Honored Artists of Russia.
