vzypetra391474<br><br>Spiritual conversation – a weekly magazine published in 1858-1876. in St. Petersburg.<br><br>The magazine was founded by Metropolitan of Novgorod and St. Petersburg Gregory (Postnikov).<br><br>In 1858-1862. (up to No. 20) was published at the St. Petersburg Theological Seminary under the of its rectors, Archimandrite Nektariy (Nadezhdin) (in 1858-1859), Archimandrite Leonty (Lebedinsky) (in 1859-1860), Archimandrite Platon (Troepolsky) (in 1860-1862 ). The assistant editor during this period was M.V. Shavrov. From No. 21 of 1862, Archpriest Ioann Yakhontov became the publisher and editor; in the „Announcement of the Editor” (1862. – No. 42), he indicated the direction of the journal: „Special attention … is paid to Christian pedagogy, catechetics and didactics.”<br><br>52 issues were published annually, combined in 1858-1859. in 4 volumes, in 1860-1864. – in 2-3 volumes (in total in 1858-1864 22 volumes were published with general numbering, 1-4 in 1859 were published in the 2nd edition), in 1865-1876. – in 2 .<br><br>In 1858-1859. the column „Church Information” was regularly conducted, in which for the first time in church periodicals official documents of the spiritual department were published; also published reviews of new books and articles from spiritual and secular magazines. In 1860-1875. the official section was expanded and made an appendix: “The Church Chronicle of the Spiritual Conversation”.<br><br>In addition to sermons and speeches, the journal published hagiographic materials; articles on biblical archeology, liturgy; translations of patristic texts; articles were published on the history of the ancient and Russian churches, Eastern Christian churches; sources on church history were published. A number of publications were devoted to polemics with the Old Believers, the history and doctrine of the Catholic and Protestant Churches. A large number of translations have been published on philosophy, apologetics, church history, missionary work, church-state relations, and interchurch relations. Several brochures were also printed as attachments, including „On the Orthodoxy of the Russian Church” (St. Petersburg, 1863) by Archpriest I. Yakhontov.<br><br>With the appearance in 1875 of the official journal of the Holy Synod „Church Bulletin”, „Spiritual Conversation” lost most of its subscribers and soon ceased to exist.<br>
